If you're a fan of pop music- in any way - then you need to hear Rookie
Card. A veritable explosion of pop culture influences, Rookie Card's sound
is kinda hard to pin down. It's literally a bit of this, and a bit of
that, mixed together for songs that are as hook filled as any you're
likely to come across. Add in strong musicianship, impressive wordplay and
a barely contained manic energy, and you have music that's not just fun-
it rocks! All of this is brilliantly captured on their debut EP, "First
Day Of Class", where they manage to careen from the non sentimental radio
friendly powerpop of "Green Glo" to twangy country-tinged stomper of "Put
Your Honey Where My Mouth Is", within the first two tracks! They never
let up for a moment, playing each song with enough conviction to fuel a
dozen lesser bands, with extra points for the pop references in closing
tune, "...in bed". "First Day Of Class" is an excellent, though too short,
collection from the San Diego quartet, that only leaves a listener wanting
more.
