THE TOP 10 REASONS WE SHOULD OPEN FOR THE VIOLENT FEMMES
1. Singer Adam Gimbel and his friends would ditch high school parties to go home and sing along to the first two Femmes records. Adam usually whistled the xylophone part in Gone Daddy Gone.
2. He told Gano this back at the band's hotel after an LA show in the early 90's when a Femme was, um, friendly with Adam's ex-girlfriend's roommate. Gordon grabbed Brian and made him whistle for him.
3. While working for BMG, his coworker was managing a band called Possum Dixon who he described as "just like the Violent Femmes". Years later, he saw Possum Dixon open for the Femmes and thought "How cool is it that they get to open for their heroes?!"
4. Rookie Card's first real show was opening up for El Destroyo, featuring Brian Ritchie on bass.
5. They were stupid enough to cover "Good Feeling" as a rocker that night.
6. Brian loved it.
7. Brian borrowed our bassist's bass.
8. Last year, we were the last band to play at Jack Murphy Stadium before the Padres stopped playing baseball there as part of a 91X concert series. We're called Rookie Card, so...you know....
9. Last month, we busked outside of an Old 97's show. Their latest producer loved us and cajoled us into coming over and playing for the 97's, who dug us too (or maybe it was just the vintage Dallas Cowboys and Mitch Miller rookie cards we gave them).
10. Last month, we were ready to stop playing but a pretty girl walked by and Adam asked her what the first concert she ever
went to was. It was the Violent Femmes. A note perfect unrehearsed "Blister In The Sun" ensued.
